Charing Cross Mansions

Charing Cross Mansions is an imposing, curved complex of red sandstone that anchors the corner of Sauchiehall Street and Saint George's Road. Completed in eighteen ninety-one, it was the first tenement in Glasgow to be built from the distinctive red sandstone that later became a hallmark of the city's architecture. The design, by architect John James Burnet, draws on French Renaissance influences and features an elaborate central clock face bordered by the signs of the zodiac.
