The Third Baptist Church stands out for its tall, light-tan bell tower topped by a large gold-painted cross. Located at the corner of McAllister and Pierce Streets, this complex is recognized as the oldest African American congregation in San Francisco. It was founded in August eighteen fifty-two in the home of Eliza and William Davis, created by parishioners who had been forced to sit in the balcony of the city's white-led churches.
