Chinese Historical Society of America Museum

The Chinese Historical Society of America Museum is housed in a brick building identifiable by its Chinese-style tiled rooflines and decorative lanterns. Built in nineteen thirty-two, the structure was originally the Chinatown branch of the Young Women’s Christian Association. The architect Julia Morgan, best known for her work on Hearst Castle, designed the facility after consulting with members of the local community to incorporate cultural elements from Chinese arts and crafts into the architecture.
