The Avalon Ballroom occupies a prominent building constructed in nineteen eleven at twelve sixty-eight Sutter Street. You can identify the site by its two-story height and the large, open-plan hall that once featured a dance floor and an L-shaped balcony. Originally designed by architect Alfred Henry Jacobs as a dance academy, the space gained a different reputation during the nineteen sixties.
