The Monadnock Building on Market Street is defined by its ten-story Beaux-Arts facade and the barrel-vaulted lobby that hides behind its entrance. When construction began in nineteen oh six, the city was rapidly rebuilding from the devastation of the Great San Francisco Earthquake and Fire. As the steel and masonry frame rose, the building faced a unique threat during the chaos of the citywide conflagration.
