The Royal Insurance Building is recognizable by the intricate marble clock above its entrance, where a lion and a unicorn flank the face. Located at two hundred one Sansome Street, this eleven-story Georgian Revival structure was one of the first commercial buildings constructed in the city following the nineteen oh six earthquake and fire. Designed by the New York architectural firm Howells and Stokes, its facade combines red brick with green and white terra cotta to create a distinct appearance in the Financial District.
