Seventeen forty-eight Haight Street was once the site of the Park Masonic Hall, a building that housed the I-Beam nightclub from nineteen seventy-seven until nineteen ninety-four. Named after a dog belonging to founder Sanford Kellman, a former astronomer, the club operated on the building's second floor. On its opening night in October nineteen seventy-seven, guests witnessed a group of men wearing construction hats and jeans carry large, physical I-beams into the club, a nod to the name.
