Jefferson Airplane House

The four-story Neoclassical Revival mansion at twenty-four hundred Fulton Street stands out for its distinctive Doric columns and its history as the communal headquarters of the psychedelic rock band Jefferson Airplane. Built in nineteen oh four by lumber baron R.A. Vance, the house features mahogany woodwork and stained-glass windows, and it famously survived the nineteen oh six earthquake and fire. Legend holds that the tenor Enrico Caruso sought refuge here after fleeing the burning Palace Hotel during that disaster.
