Nightingale House

other

The Nightingale House at two hundred one Buchanan Street is an eighteen-eighty-two Eastlake-style residence identifiable by its prominent tower and rhythmic, vertical design. Built by real estate developer John Nightingale as a wedding gift for his daughter Florence, the home stands as a relic of the neighborhood’s era of dirt roads and horse-drawn carriages. Nightingale was a Forty-Niner who amassed a significant fortune in the area, and this house is all that remains of his once-extensive local property holdings.
