Mary Ellen Pleasant Memorial Park

Six massive blue gum eucalyptus trees define this small corner at Bush and Octavia streets. This site, often called the smallest park in San Francisco, marks the former location of a thirty-room Italianate mansion owned by Mary Ellen Pleasant. She was a nineteenth-century entrepreneur and abolitionist who used her immense wealth to support the Underground Railroad and fund the raid on Harpers Ferry.
