St. Dominic’s Catholic Church occupies the corner of Bush and Steiner Streets, distinguished by nine massive concrete flying buttresses that reach out from its sides to support the stone walls. This English Gothic structure, completed in nineteen twenty-eight, is the fourth iteration of a parish founded by the Dominican Order in eighteen seventy-three. The site remains a centerpiece of the neighborhood, though its history is marked by the persistent force of San Francisco’s seismic activity.
