Maritime Hall

The building at four hundred fifty Harrison Street is a four-story structure of white stone and concrete, defined by its Art Moderne style. Designed by architect William Gladstone Merchant and completed in nineteen fifty, it houses the headquarters of the Sailors’ Union of the Pacific. Its interior features a grand maritime-themed dispatch hall, balconies shaped like parts of a ship, and porthole-style windows. Two large models of square-rigged sailing ships are displayed in the lobby, and busts of labor figures Andrew Furuseth and Harry Lundeberg stand outside.
