Bindlestiff Studio

Bindlestiff Studio sits on Sixth Street in the South of Market district, identifiable by its unassuming presence as a black box theater housed within a residential building. Founded in nineteen eighty-nine by Chrystene Ells and Chris Brophy, the space began as an experimental theater. The name itself comes from the hobo terminology they discovered while researching their first production, a play about drifters during the Great Depression.
