The building at thirty-four hundred and one Water Street is identifiable by its long, low profile of brick and concrete-block construction, which sits tucked between the C&O Canal and the elevated Whitehurst Freeway. Originally built in two stages during the nineteen thirties and nineteen forties, the structure functioned for years as a commercial garage for the Crystal Ice Company. Its industrial character remains visible in the original warehouse walls, which have been retrofit to support a modern seven-story hotel addition.
