The Cardozo Hotel is defined by its nineteen thirties Art Deco architecture, featuring a streamlined facade with rounded lines often compared to the fender of a Studebaker. Designed by architect Henry Hohauser and built in nineteen thirty-nine, the hotel is constructed with decorative keystone trim made from dyed porous limestone. It stands in the heart of the Art Deco District, named for Benjamin Cardozo, who was one of the first Jewish justices on the United States Supreme Court.
