The News Cafe is recognizable by the green awnings stretching over the sidewalk at eight hundred Ocean Drive. Opened in nineteen eighty-eight by restaurateur Mark Soyka, it was one of the few dining spots in the Art Deco district during a time when the boulevard remained quiet. Within a year, the cafe became a gathering place for locals and tourists who arrived to browse the international newsstand and linger over coffee.
