Two fifty-foot glass brick towers rise from a black granite reflecting pool, marking the presence of the Crown Fountain in Millennium Park. Spanish artist Jaume Plensa designed these structures, which opened in two thousand four, to serve as a modern take on the ancient public fountain. The towers use light-emitting diode screens to project shifting video portraits of one thousand Chicago residents, creating an ever-changing display of faces that rotate throughout the day.
