Four hundred eighty-nine Fifth Avenue is a thirty-four-story office tower distinguished by its narrow, striking black-and-white grid facade. Designed by the firm Kahn and Jacobs and completed in nineteen seventy-three, the building occupies a tight interior lot on the east side of Fifth Avenue, directly across from the New York Public Library and Bryant Park.
