Times Square

Times Square is defined by the massive, glowing digital billboards that wash the bowtie-shaped intersection in constant light. Originally called Longacre Square, it functioned as the center of the city’s horse and carriage trade. This changed in nineteen oh four, when The New York Times moved its headquarters into a new skyscraper at the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Avenue. Mayor George B. McClellan Jr. signed a resolution that same year to rename the area after the newspaper.
