Puck Building

The Puck Building is easily identified by two gilded statues of the character Puck, the mischievous sprite from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. One statue sits near the corner of Houston and Mulberry Streets, while a smaller version watches over the Lafayette Street entrance. These figures, sculpted by Henry Baerer, depict the character dressed in a top hat and frock coat, holding a hand mirror to reflect society’s follies. The red-brick structure occupies the entire block between Lafayette, Houston, Mulberry, and Jersey Streets, showcasing a German-inspired architectural style known as Rundbogenstil, or round-arch style.
