The Oculus is a sprawling, white structure defined by curving steel ribs that reach upward like the wings of a bird. Designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, this transportation hub serves as the primary gateway for commuters using the PATH rail system and over a dozen New York City subway lines. Its massive, elliptical hall sits underground between the skyscrapers of the World Trade Center campus, housing retail spaces and walkways that connect to the surrounding city blocks.
