Trinity Church rises at the corner of Broadway and Wall Street, its pointed Gothic Revival arches and towering brownstone spire standing as a distinct contrast to the glass and steel of the surrounding Financial District. Consecrated in eighteen forty-six, this is the third church to occupy this site. The first, built in sixteen ninety-eight, burned in the Great Fire of seventeen seventy-six, and the second, which once hosted George Washington during his time as president, collapsed after its roof support beams failed under heavy snow in eighteen thirty-nine.
