Fulton Ferry Landing is defined by its custom-designed marine railings that interweave verses from Walt Whitman's poem, Crossing Brooklyn Ferry, with imagery of the Brooklyn Bridge. This waterfront site marks the location of the first ferry service between Brooklyn and Manhattan, established in sixteen forty-two. By eighteen fourteen, Robert Fulton introduced steam-powered vessels here, a shift that transformed Brooklyn into a bustling suburb by enabling daily commutes across the East River.
