Squibb Park

Squibb Park sits below street level, a quiet playground squeezed beside the massive concrete trench of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway. The space bears the name of Doctor Edward Robinson Squibb, a nineteenth-century naval surgeon and pioneer in pharmaceutical quality who kept his early laboratories nearby. The park occupies this spot as a result of the late nineteen-forties construction projects intended to reshape city transit infrastructure. The name Squibb remains etched into the brickwork of old factory smokestacks in the immediate area.
