The Federal Reserve Bank of New York occupies an entire city block in the Financial District, its exterior composed of deeply rusticated limestone and sandstone blocks. Designed by architects York and Sawyer and completed in nineteen twenty-four, the building mimics the robust, fortress-like appearance of early Italian Renaissance palaces, such as the Strozzi Palace in Florence.
