The Cunard Building at twenty-five Broadway is defined by five enormous round-arched limestone openings along its base. Completed in nineteen twenty-one, this twenty-two-story structure was designed by Benjamin Wistar Morris to serve as the American headquarters for the Cunard Line. Because the building stands over a subway line running diagonally beneath the site, its floor plan follows the irregular shape of the street grid, resulting in a design that lacks perfect right angles.
