Stone Street is defined by its narrow, pedestrian-only path surfaced with Belgian block paving. It is one of the oldest streets in New York City, originating from two seventeenth-century Dutch colonial roads, Breuers Straet and Hoogh Straet. The street earned its name in seventeen ninety-four, chosen by residents to celebrate the fact that it had become the first road in the city to be paved with stones back in sixteen fifty-eight.
