The Gunther Building at the corner of Broome and Greene Streets is marked by its bright white cast-iron facade and a distinct, gracefully curved glass corner. Completed in eighteen seventy-three, the six-story structure was designed by architect Griffith Thomas for William H. Gunther, a prominent furrier. It represents the height of the cast-iron era in Manhattan, when such buildings were often polychromed in multiple colors rather than the uniform white seen today.
