Christopher Street Pier is a nine-hundred-foot-long wooden deck extending into the Hudson River, recognizable by its expansive grass lawn and the steel shade structures that punctuate the walkway. Once a busy shipping terminal for trans-Atlantic passengers and cargo, the site fell into disuse by the mid-nineteen-sixties as air travel rose.
