The sign for Joey Ramone Place hangs nearly twenty feet above the intersection of the Bowery and East Second Street. It marks the corner where the lead singer of the Ramones lived and where the band first forged its sound at the nearby club CBGB. New York City officials formally renamed this stretch of street on November thirtieth, two thousand three, two years after the singer died at the age of forty-nine.
