The Hotel Edison rises above West Forty-seventh Street as an Art Deco landmark in the heart of the Theater District. Designed by architect Herbert J. Krapp, the twenty-six story building opened in nineteen thirty-one with a unique connection to its namesake. Thomas Edison famously signaled the hotel’s debut by remotely flipping a switch from his home in New Jersey to turn on the building's marquee lights.
