The Steves Homestead is a three-story limestone residence capped by a concave mansard roof with decorative iron cresting. Completed in eighteen seventy-seven for Edward Steves, the founder of the Steves Lumber Company, the house was built to showcase the success of a German immigrant in nineteenth-century Texas. It sits along the San Antonio River in the King William Historic District, surrounded by outbuildings including a carriage house and servants' quarters.
