The Tower of the Americas is a seven hundred fifty-foot spire that dominates the San Antonio skyline, recognizable by the broad, circular observation level perched atop its slender concrete shaft. Built as the theme structure for the nineteen sixty-eight World’s Fair, or HemisFair, it served to celebrate the two hundred fiftieth anniversary of the city’s founding. Architect O’Neil Ford designed the tower to be the centerpiece of the international exposition, which aimed to highlight the confluence of cultures across the Americas.
