Arneson River Theatre

The Arneson River Theatre is defined by a deep, stone-stepped amphitheater that faces a stage across the San Antonio River. This open-air venue, completed in nineteen thirty-nine, was constructed by the Works Progress Administration under the supervision of architect Robert H.H. Hugman. Its layout uses the natural flow of the river to physically separate the performers from the audience of eight hundred seated on the south bank.
