La Villita, or little village, occupies a single square block on the south bank of the San Antonio River. You can identify the site by its collection of twenty-seven restored buildings that blend rustic adobe walls with Texas limestone and early Victorian details. It holds the distinction of being the oldest neighborhood in San Antonio, tracing its beginnings to a settlement of Coahuiltecan people and later, families of soldiers stationed at the nearby Mission San Antonio de Valero.
