The Guenther House is a limestone home identifiable by its green tile roof and its position directly beside the large-scale industrial buildings of Pioneer Flour Mills. Built in eighteen sixty by German immigrant Carl Hilmar Guenther, the house was originally a one-story, T-shaped stone cottage constructed to stand right next to the miller's new water-powered business. Guenther had moved his family to San Antonio from the Fredericksburg area after repeated droughts and floods threatened his earlier milling ventures.
