Marriage Island

Marriage Island is a small, heart-shaped islet located in the San Antonio River, directly in front of the Hotel Contessa. Roughly twenty-five feet long and fifteen feet wide, the island is easily identified by a large, century-old cypress tree that anchors the land. This patch of earth formed naturally at the river's widest point and was purposefully preserved during the development of the River Walk in the nineteen thirties to protect the tree’s root system.
