The Macleay Regis apartment building at twelve Macleay Street stands out for its grand, Art Deco entrance portico and its height, which towers above the neighboring buildings. Completed in nineteen thirty-nine, the ten-story structure was designed by architects Eric Pitt and Charles Phillips. It was the largest block of flats in Sydney at the time, constructed at a cost of over one hundred thousand pounds.
