Barrier Reef Hotel

The Barrier Reef Hotel stands at the corner of Wharf and Abbott Streets as a two-story reinforced concrete building with a distinctive wide veranda supported by timber posts. The posts at the exact corner of the street intersection are missing, an original design choice that sets the structure apart. It occupies the site of the original eighteen ninety-eight Empire Hotel, and its current form dates to nineteen twenty-six.
