The Crown Hotel

The Crown Hotel on Shields Street in Cairns is one of the oldest public houses in the city, with a history dating back to eighteen eighty-six. The building occupying the corner today was constructed in nineteen twenty-nine after a fire destroyed the original two-story hotel that had stood on the site since the late nineteenth century. In the nineteen twenties, the property operated as Hanneysee's Crown Hotel, and architect S. S. Oxenham managed the design of the present structure.
