The Jack Hotel and Backpackers occupies a prominent corner site at the intersection of Sheridan and Spence Streets, easily identified by its sprawling, all-weather outdoor beer garden and the oversized screens that broadcast live sports to the street. Originally established in nineteen twenty-six as the Commercial Hotel, the building was designed by architect Richard Hill as a two-story concrete structure featuring stripped classical detailing.
