Øksnehallen

cultural

Øksnehallen is a wide, yellow-brick hall defined by its distinct roof skylights and a series of interior pillars that support the expansive structure. Designed by city architect Ludvig Fenger, it opened in nineteen oh one as the centerpiece of the Brown Meat District. The name itself comes from the old Danish word for oxen, reflecting the hall's original purpose as a central cattle market capable of housing sixteen hundred animals at a time.
