Church of Our Lady (Copenhagen Cathedral)

The Church of Our Lady, Copenhagen's cathedral, is marked by a voluminous square tower that rises above the surrounding neighborhood with a distinct, abrupt top crowned by a simple gold-plated cross. While the current neoclassical building dates to eighteen twenty-nine, the site has housed a church since the early thirteenth century. This version was designed by architect Christian Frederik Hansen following the destruction of the previous structure, which burned after being struck by British incendiary rockets during the bombardment of Copenhagen in eighteen oh seven.
