Nyboder 17th century houses

The ochre-yellow façades and long, repeated rows of these terraced houses distinguish Nyboder from the rest of Copenhagen. Commissioned by King Christian the Fourth starting in sixteen thirty-one, this neighborhood was built to house the rapidly growing ranks of the Royal Danish Navy and their families. These houses were intended to keep personnel stationed close to their ships, ensuring the fleet could be manned quickly whenever needed.
