Christianshavns Kanal

Christianshavns Kanal is a long, central waterway defined by the two streets that run along its banks, known as Overgaden oven Vandet and Overgaden neden Vandet. The canal bisects the neighborhood, with the street names translating to "above the water" and "below the water" to mark the two sides of the district. Its layout, characterized by a grid of straight, right-angled streets, reflects the seventeenth-century Dutch-inspired design commissioned by King Christian the Fourth.
