Nyhavn

Nyhavn is a three-hundred-meter canal in central Copenhagen, instantly recognizable by the rows of narrow, brightly colored seventeenth and early eighteenth-century townhouses that line its northern quay. King Christian the Fifth ordered the canal constructed between sixteen seventy and sixteen seventy-three to serve as a direct link between the city’s primary square, Kongens Nytorv, and the sea. Swedish prisoners of war captured during the Dano-Swedish War dug the channel by hand.
