Kongens Nytorv, or the King’s New Square, is distinguished by an elliptical parterre garden known as Krinsen, which surrounds a central equestrian statue of King Christian the Fifth. Established in sixteen seventy, the square marks a deliberate shift in the city’s center away from the muddy medieval marketplace at Gammeltorv toward a planned, grand space inspired by French baroque design.
