Montée de l'Observance

The Montée de l'Observance is a road that winds up the hillside of Fourvière in tight, forested switchbacks. Traced in eighteen forty-six, it cuts through the grounds of what was once a fifteenth-century Franciscan monastery. You can identify the path by its steady incline, which connects the banks of the Saône river near the school Chevalier Bayard to the heights above, passing alongside the stone walls of the nineteenth-century Fort de Loyasse and the surrounding cemetery.
