Place du Marché Gayot

The Place du Marché Gayot is a compact, rectangular square hidden in the heart of Strasbourg, framed by colorful half-timbered houses and reachable through eight narrow passageways. It takes its name from François-Marie de Gayot, the royal administrator who laid out this space in seventeen sixty-nine following a plan by the architect Jacques-François Blondel.
