Fontaine Pont de Neuilly

landmark

The Fontaine du Pont de Neuilly is a tall, ornate stone column topped by an eagle. It was designed by the architect Damesme and the sculptor Duret in eighteen twenty-five. Napoleon originally commissioned this monument to honor his victory at the Battle of Wagram. When it was first constructed, the fountain stood near the banks of the Seine to mark the entrance to Neuilly at the end of the stone bridge. While it remained near the river for over a century, urban planning eventually led to the monument being moved to its present location in the Plaine des Sablons.
